ONE WHO DESIRES to process the King’s Highway by means of the arms of righteousness must pass through glory and ignobility, infamy and good reputation (2 Cor. 6:7, 8), and with such caution as if he deviates ever so little to the right or left, he shall be dashed upon the pernicious of crags. For where the devil cannot cast down by honour, he subplants by humility. If he cannot extol by the adornment of knowledge, he shatters by the weight of silence. If one conceals his victories for the sake of despising the glory of them, one is assailed by the same sin of vainglory.
